A historic tour of the Buffalo Water Treatment Plant

Over 270,000 people in the City of Buffalo enjoy some of the world's highest quality and best tasting water.

Constructed in 1915, the Colonel F.G. Ward Pumping Station is one of the largest pumping stations in the world, delivering over 20 billion gallons of water annually.

The 160-million gallons per day (MGD) surface water treatment plant is supplied from Lake Erie through a 6,600-foot long tunnel extending from the Emerald Channel intake.

The project is regarded as one of Western New York’s most historic engineering achievements.
